Sesame Ball
Ingredients:
- 100g white sesame seeds
- 1 egg
- 90g caster sugar
- 2tsp oil
- 1.5tbsp water
- 230g self raising flour
- 1/2tsp baking powder
- 1/4tsp bicarbonate of soda

Steps:
- Wash and soak 100g of white sesame seeds for 15mins, drain the sesame seeds afterwards.
- Whisk 1 egg and 90g of caster sugar together until the mixture is smooth.
- Add 2tsp of oil, mix well.
- Sieve 230g of self raising flour, 1/2tsp of baking powder and 1/4tsp of bicarbonate of soda into the mixture, mix well.
- Let the dough rest for 15mins.
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into strips, cut into smaller sections and roll them into balls.
- Coat the dough balls with sesame seeds.
- Fry the sesame balls using medium heat until they float to the surface and turn golden in colour.
- Turn to high heat before taking the sesame balls out, serve once it is cooled.
Tips
- To test if the oil is hot enough, place a chopstick into the boiling oil. If the temperature of the oil is high enough, bubbles would emerge around the chopstick.
- Rest the sesame balls on a piece of paper towel to soak any excess oil. This is to prevent the sesame balls from becoming soggy.
